UBON RATCHATHANI, Thailand – Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul visited Sergeant Major First Class Channarong Wongchana at Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani on August 23. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister of Defence Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Army Commander-in-Chief General Pana Claewplodtook, and additional officials.
Sergeant Major First Class Channarong, also known as Sergeant Joe, serves with the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, King’s Guard. He sustained injuries from a landmine near Chong An Ma in Nam Yuen district while on duty. The Prime Minister met with the officer and his family, presented essential supplies, and expressed gratitude for his service. He assured the family of ongoing government support. During the visit, the serviceman’s son shared his aspiration to become a doctor.
The Prime Minister stated that the officer is in stable condition and may be transferred to Phramongkutklao Hospital in Bangkok in about two weeks for further treatment and prosthetic fitting. Doctors confirmed his other injuries are treatable and his overall condition is not a cause for concern. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of ongoing medical care, rehabilitation, legal entitlements, welfare assistance, and family support for personnel injured in the line of duty.
