JAKARTA, Indonesia – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto welcomed former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra at his private residence in Jakarta, where they discussed global and regional strategic issues, investment opportunities and economic development. The meeting took place on July 8, after President Prabowo had earlier welcomed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Yogyakarta International Airport. Teddy Indra Wijaya, Secretary of the Indonesian Cabinet, shared photos and details of the meeting through the official Cabinet Secretariat Instagram account.

The informal gathering brought together Thaksin Shinawatra, who served as Thailand’s prime minister from 2001 to 2006, along with his daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who served as Thailand’s prime minister from 2024 to 2025. Teddy described the meeting as a warm and friendly discussion that strengthened the long-standing relationship between the two figures. President Prabowo and Thaksin exchanged views on global strategic developments and changing regional dynamics. Thaksin, who currently serves as an advisory board member of Indonesia’s Danantara sovereign wealth fund, also shared his perspectives on investment opportunities and economic strategies.

The following day, on July 9, President Prabowo met with three former Thai prime ministers from the Shinawatra family — Thaksin Shinawatra, Yingluck Shinawatra, who served as Thailand’s prime minister from 2011 to 2014, and Paetongtarn Shinawatra — at the Danantara building in Jakarta.

During the meeting, Thaksin exchanged views with President Prabowo and Danantara executives on investment opportunities, asset management strategies and long-term economic development.

Senior Danantara executives attending the discussion included CEO Rosan Roeslani, Chief Operating Officer Dony Oskaria and Chief Investment Officer Pandu Sjahrir. The Indonesian government said such meetings reflect its continued efforts to strengthen international cooperation networks and maintain close communication with global leaders and influential figures amid changing global economic conditions.
