Fourth Army Area Commander Norathip Poinok leads a high-level security meeting in Phuket as authorities intensify operations against narcotics trafficking, illegal foreign nominee businesses, and public land encroachment at key beach areas including Bang Tao, Freedom Beach, and Nui Beach.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Fourth Army Area Commander and Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Director Lt Gen Norathip Poinok chaired a meeting in Phuket on May 23, 2026, to review security conditions, anti-narcotics operations, and public space regulation, while reinforcing interagency cooperation to address key challenges sustainably. The meeting was attended by Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn, provincial officials, military and police commanders, local administrators, and representatives from relevant government agencies.

Officials reviewed the province’s overall security situation, including narcotics suppression, public area management, prevention of natural resource encroachment, monitoring illegal immigration, transnational crime, and concerns over foreign land ownership through nominee arrangements. Authorities noted these issues affect provincial security, economic development, and Phuket’s reputation as a major tourism destination. Phuket authorities reported continued anti-drug operations during fiscal year 2026, identifying attempts to smuggle narcotics into the province via private delivery services. Several major arrests and drug seizures resulted from coordinated operations involving security agencies, police, and administrative authorities.

The meeting also addressed encroachment on public land, forest areas, and beaches, including Bang Tao, Freedom Beach, and Nui Beach, where investigations and legal proceedings are ongoing. Relevant agencies are working together to examine land ownership, foreign business operations, nominee arrangements, and natural resource violations while continuing strict law enforcement. Lt Gen Norathip stated the government has designated security threats, natural resource encroachment, and issues involving foreign nationals as urgent priorities to protect national resources, safeguard public interests, and strengthen confidence in government administration. He emphasized close interagency coordination and accurate public communication to prevent confusion from misinformation on social media.

The visit is part of ongoing government efforts following Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s recent visit to Phuket to accelerate solutions to local challenges. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining public order, protecting natural resources, and supporting Phuket’s development as a safe, distinctive, and sustainable tourism destination.
