
PHUKET, Thailand – One person was killed and more than 10 others injured after a speedboat carrying tourists collided with a fishing vessel near the Phi Phi Islands in Krabi province on Saturday morning.
The accident occurred at around 8:45 a.m. near Phi Phi Island, Ao Nang subdistrict, Mueang Krabi district. The speedboat, carrying a total of 55 people including tourists and crew, struck a fishing boat that was operating a trawl net. As a result, dozens of passengers were thrown into the sea.
Nearby boats provided immediate assistance before coordinating with the Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Center and the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization’s Pearl Center for rescue operations.
Passengers said the speedboat had departed from Phuket and was heading to the Phi Phi Islands when the collision occurred. All passengers were later brought ashore at Phi Phi Island and are being transported for medical treatment at Chalong Pier in Phuket.
As of 11:07 a.m., authorities confirmed one fatality. Two victims were classified as serious (orange cases), 12 sustained moderate injuries (yellow cases), and seven suffered minor injuries (green cases). Investigations into the cause of the collision are ongoing. (TNA)
