Military Orders Governors to Strengthen Anti-Drone Defenses and Monitor Provincial Halls, Armories, and Airports Amid Border Tensions

BANGKOK, Thailand – Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang, Commander of Thailand’s 2nd Army Region, convened a VTC (video teleconference) with governors of all 20 northeastern provinces to tighten anti-drone protocols and increase surveillance of strategic locations including provincial halls, weapons depots, transport terminals, and airports.

Each governor, in their capacity as head of their province’s Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC), was instructed to coordinate with police, private sectors, and the public to procure anti-drone equipment and monitor for suspicious drone activity.

The military also called for patrol teams to investigate outsiders in sensitive areas. Anyone apprehended could face the most serious charges, including terrorism or espionage—offenses punishable by death. Authorities were told not to release suspects easily and to investigate their links thoroughly. It is suspected that third-party actors affected by crackdowns on call center scams or illegal gambling dens in neighboring countries may be involved.

If the perpetrators are foreigners, Thailand will prosecute them fully before deportation and blacklisting.

General Boonsin also commented on the Cambodian side’s continued troop buildup, stating that Thai forces remain on 24-hour alert.

Separately, Army Deputy Spokesperson Col. Richcha Suksuwanon confirmed that an unexploded ordnance disposal operation took place this morning at 9:00 a.m. near Yod Phu Khue, with prior notice given to Cambodian counterparts to prevent misunderstandings. (TNA)
