BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai government confirmed it will launch the flat 20-baht fare for all electric train lines by October 1, as part of efforts to reduce the cost of living. The Ministry of Transport clarified that funding will come from government subsidies and the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), not from taxpayers in the provinces. In fact, officials noted that Bangkok residents contribute nearly half of the country’s total tax revenue. (TNA)
