Thailand condemns Cambodia’s use of landmines injuring Thai soldiers at Chong Bok, urging cooperation on humanitarian mine clearance under bilateral agreements.

BANGKOK, ThailandNikorndej Balankura, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, read a statement condemning Cambodia’s use of anti-personnel landmines, which injured three Thai soldiers at Chong Bok, Ubon Ratchathani Province.

The statement said that on July 16, 2025, three soldiers from Infantry Company 6021 were conducting routine patrols on Thai territory near Chong Bok when they stepped on anti-personnel landmines. Following investigations, Thai security agencies found clear evidence that these landmines were not part of Thailand’s arsenal and had been newly placed. Along with environmental evidence, this led to the conclusion that the landmines were deliberately laid by Cambodia, constituting a serious violation of international law.

The Thai government strongly condemns the use of anti-personnel landmines as a breach of Thailand’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Such actions violate fundamental principles of international law enshrined in the United Nations Charter and the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, to which Thailand is a party.

Thailand will pursue remedies under the Convention and continue to seek resolution with Cambodia through existing bilateral mechanisms. The Thai government also calls on Cambodia to cooperate in humanitarian mine clearance along the border, as agreed by both Prime Ministers within the bilateral framework.
