TRAT, Thailand – Fighting intensified along the Trat border from the early hours of Saturday, with a new front opening in the Hat Lek area, prompting urgent evacuations on both sides of the Thai–Cambodian border.
Footage from Cambodia’s Koh Kong province showed the sound of clashes clearly audible from around 2:00 a.m. Reports said Thai forces fired more than 10 artillery rounds toward targets in the Koh Yor area after Cambodian forces allegedly attempted to attack a Thai naval vessel. Thai forces responded from the sea, striking coastal positions in Koh Kong aimed at neutralizing four artillery bases reportedly located in the Koh Yor–Ban Pak Khlong area of Cambodia’s Koh Kong province.
The exchanges forced residents of Pak Khlong village to evacuate urgently, causing long traffic congestion stretching several kilometres as civilians fled the area with their belongings.
On the Thai side, heavy traffic was reported along Sukhumvit Road 3 (Trat–Khlong Yai), with vehicles steadily heading toward Trat town. At the Ban Chamrak intersection, many residents were seen loading household items into their vehicles as evacuations continued throughout the morning.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as security operations continue in the border area. (TNA)
