Foreign Affairs Minister Sihasak says all diplomatic channels—including coordination with Malaysia—are being used to ensure the safe return of Thai civilians in Cambodia, stressing they must be protected under humanitarian principles and kept separate from the conflict.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Foreign Affairs Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow stated that Thailand is expediting diplomatic efforts through all available channels to secure the safe return of Thai nationals stranded in Poipet, Cambodia. The government stressed that civilians must not be treated as parties to the conflict. This includes seeking support from Malaysia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in discussions with Cambodian authorities. He added that Malaysian military representatives are also working with their Cambodian counterparts to help resolve the situation.

Responding to concerns from families of stranded Thai nationals, he emphasized the importance of distinguishing between conflict developments and the status of civilians, who are not involved in hostilities and must be protected under humanitarian principles. Thailand is prepared to open its border to facilitate the return of Cambodian nationals and expects reciprocal cooperation to ensure Thai citizens can return safely.

The Minister reaffirmed that Thai nationals are civilians, not military adversaries, and that their welfare and safety remain the Government’s priority. If Cambodian authorities do not allow their return, Thailand is prepared to pursue additional measures, including direct negotiations and diplomatic engagement, to ensure Thai nationals receive humanitarian care and can return home safely in accordance with international humanitarian norms and civilian protection principles.
