CHIANG MAI – The smog in Chiang Mai province has improved, following gusty weather conditions.

Officials said that although the capital district of Chiang Mai is still blanketed by thick haze, the overall atmosphere has considerably improved from the last four days. They attributed the improvement to windy weather conditions, which helped to dissipate the smog. They also indicated that the reading for particulate matter of 10 microns in diameter or smaller (PM10) in the province is 100 micrograms per cubic meter, falling just under the threshold for public safety.

Nonetheless, the Chiang Mai administration maintained its warning to locals, recommending they avoid outdoor activities, especially exercise. Local authorities have encouraged residents to wear face masks when venturing outside, until the situation improves.

Officials suggested that small children, senior citizens, and patients with chronic diseases exercise caution regarding their health.
