
BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently held discussions with Iran’s ambassador following an incident in which the Thai-flagged cargo vessel Mayuree Naree sustained damage near the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel had departed from Khalifa Port in the United Arab Emirates and was carrying 23 Thai crew members at the time.
During the meeting, Sirilak Niyom, deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, discussed the matter with Nassereddin Heidari, ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Thailand. Thai authorities conveyed their concern regarding the incident involving the Thai vessel and its crew and requested clarification regarding the circumstances of the event, as well as appropriate consideration regarding the matter.
The Iranian ambassador expressed regret over the incident and stated that Thailand’s concerns would be conveyed to the relevant authorities in Tehran. Thai officials also expressed concern about the broader situation in the region and encouraged all parties involved to exercise restraint and pursue diplomatic dialogue while ensuring the safety of civilian lives.
Thailand also expressed appreciation to the government of Iran for facilitating the evacuation of Thai nationals from the country earlier this month. During the discussion, Thai officials requested continued attention to the safety and well-being of Thai students who remain in Iran. (NNT)
