The Poh Teck Tung Foundation has distributed dry food and consumer goods to the poor at the annual event. Led by the chairman of the foundation, Vichien Tejapaibul, the ceremony was presided over by Bangkok governor, Chadchart Sittipunt. During this event, a total of 20,000 sets of consumer goods were distributed to the underprivileged people in both Bangkok and from various provinces who had come to receive them in large numbers. The so-called ‘Teh Kra-Jad’ tradition is an important Buddhist merit-making ceremony that has been passed down since the time of the Buddha.

It involves offering consumer goods, rice, and dry food to make merit for deceased ancestors and also other suffering spirits. The items are then distributed to the needy.

This tradition, which combines both acts of merit-making and giving, has been continuously upheld by the Poh Teck Tung Foundation for over a century since its establishment. (TNA)
