Applications are open from May 19 to June 15. The initiative, implemented by the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC), aims to nurture musical talent and strengthen Thailand’s presence in the global jazz scene.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the Thailand Cultural Centre on May 19, presided over by Vice Minister for Culture Ploy Tanikul. In attendance were senior ministry officials, university music educators, and acclaimed Thai musicians, including Wirat U-Tawaughn, National Artist in Western Music Performance (2017); Professor Dr. Narongrit Dhamabutra, National Artist in Composition (2021); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Den Euprasert, Silpathorn Artist in Music (2009); and Manlak Tumkanon of the band ETC. The RSU Jazz Orchestra from Rangsit University performed His Majesty the King’s composition “Saeng Duean: Magic Beams” and the classic “Fly Me to the Moon.”
The project will select young musicians from across the country with basic music literacy and the ability to play one of the following instruments: drums, electric or double bass, piano, saxophone (alto, tenor, or baritone), trumpet, or trombone (tenor or bass). Those selected will participate in intensive workshops with professional jazz musicians, composers, and university instructors. The program will culminate in a live concert featuring the newly formed Thai Youth Jazz Orchestra and leading Thai jazz vocalists.
