Crowded zones targeted for stricter police operations during Songkran

BANGKOK, 14 April 2015 – Deputy Police Chief Pol Gen Ruengsak Jarit-ake has ordered police officers to use stricter security measures in crowded areas especially in water-splashing zones, shopping malls and markets to ensure public safety during Songkran Festival 2015. His order came as he inspected today police operations at ASIATIQUE The Riverfront shopping center and piers along the Chao Phraya River.

He emphasized to all police officers on duty to be mindful while working to prevent bad incidents from happening. He suggested that fast-moving units should be ready to reach callers as soon as possible while private companies should add more security staff and regularly check the operation of CCTVs in their offices.

As for solutions to the problem of illegal motorcycle racing on roads, Pol Gen Ruengsak revealed he had ordered local police to actively detect teenagers’ movement in order to prevent their gathering on roads while ad hoc units must be on standby and ready to mobilize in emergency.
