Chadchart smashes previous record in Bangkok gubernatorial landslide

Chadchart Sittipunt wins a landslide victory in Bangkok’s election, securing more than 1.4 million votes and strengthening his mandate for a second term in office.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Incumbent Chadchart Sittipunt secured a decisive lead in Bangkok’s unofficial gubernatorial election results, capturing over 1.4 million votes to put him on track for a second term. According to unofficial results from yesterday’s election with 95% of votes counted, Mr. Chadchart won across all 50 districts, breaking his own historical record of 1,386,233 votes set on May 22, 2022. In the June 28, 2026 poll, Mr. Chadchart secured first place with 1,444,914 votes (65.6%), followed by Mrs. Mallika Boonmeetrakool Mahasook in second place with 288,171 votes (13.1%), and Mr. Chaiwat Sathawornwichit in third with 176,934 votes (8.0%).



The overall voter turnout for the election stood at 2,201,739 or 49.7% of the 4,428,644 total eligible voters. Of the ballots counted so far, valid votes accounted for 2,131,341 (96.8%), spoiled ballots accounted for 20,784 (0.9%), and “no-vote” (abstention) ballots totaled 49,614. Parallel to the gubernatorial race, the Bangkok Metropolitan Council (BMC) election saw the People’s Party claim the most district seats with 22 representatives. The remaining council seats were won by the Khum Kon Tham Ngan (Working Group) with 11 seats, the Democrat Party with 8 seats. (TNA)
