Bhutan Royal Family holds 1,000 butter lamp ceremony in tribute to Thai Princess

BHUTAN – The Royal Family of the Kingdom of Bhutan held a religious ceremony in tribute to Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Krom Luang Rajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhita.  His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan announced on social media that, on June 13, His Majesty the King of Bhutan, His Majesty the Fourth King of Bhutan, Her Majesty the Queen, Her Majesty Queen Tshering Pem Wangchuck, and members of the Bhutanese Royal Family performed religious rites and offered 1,000 butter lamps at the main temple of Tashichhodzong Palace. The ceremony was dedicated to Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha, who passed away on June 11.



Monks, senior Bhutanese government officials, members of the Thai community in Bhutan, and officials from the Thai Honorary Consulate in Bhutan attended the ceremony. Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha was the eldest daughter of His Majesty the King of Thailand. Her Royal Highness had been receiving medical treatment at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital of the Thai Red Cross Society in Bangkok since December 2022.


​Her Royal Highness the late Princess was deeply respected for her dedication to public service, her leadership in promoting justice and the welfare of women and children, and her distinguished service with the Royal Thai Armed Forces. Highlighting the long-standing, warm, and deep friendship between Bhutan and Thailand, the Bhutanese Royal Family and the people of Bhutan extend their deepest condolences to His Majesty the King, the Royal Family, and the people of Thailand.
