
SURIN, Thailand – Officers from the 2nd Army Area Operations Center have escorted BBC Senior Southeast Asia Correspondent Jonathan Head during a field visit to conflict-affected areas in Surin province on December 10). The visit was led by the chief of the Thai–Neighboring Countries Border Coordination Office, and the chief of the 2nd Army Area Public Relations Center.
The itinerary included Phanom Dong Rak Hospital, where medical personnel are operating from bunkers due to ongoing border clashes. Head reviewed the hospital’s emergency procedures and spoke with staff about the challenges of providing care amid ongoing security threats.
The BBC official also visited a temporary evacuation center and nearby homes damaged by BM-21 rocket fire, meeting with displaced residents and witnessing the relief efforts underway to support those affected by the conflict. (NNT)
