BANGKOK, Thailand – Construction of the Royal Crematorium and its accompanying ceremonial structures at Sanam Luang in Bangkok is progressing on schedule in preparation for the Royal Cremation Ceremony of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. The Fine Arts Department confirmed that structural work on the Royal Crematorium and associated buildings inside and outside the ceremonial grounds is complete.

Remaining work includes traditional artistic decorations, electrical and sanitation systems, and landscaping, with preparations proceeding according to schedule.

The site is expected to be ready in November for the ceremonial raising of the Nine-Tiered Great White Umbrella atop the Royal Crematorium. Restoration of 13 royal chariots and palanquins has also been completed. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over a traditional sacred offering ceremony for the restored royal conveyances at the Royal Chariot Hall on October 14.

Preparations are also underway for ceremonial articles, including the Royal Sandalwood Urn, Royal Sandalwood Coffin, Royal Urn for the Royal Relics, and traditional Buddhist offerings. The remaining arrangements are being carefully coordinated to ensure the Royal Cremation Ceremony follows ancient royal traditions, with the utmost dignity and reverence befitting Her Majesty. (NNT)
