Persistent heavy downpours throughout Bangkok last night caused flooding in many areas and made some road sections impassable.

Chadchart Sittipunt had his first-hand experiences in deep floods in his tenure as the Bangkok governor.

Mr Chadchart and Supamit Laithong, sewerage director of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, saw heavy flooding in Huai Khwang, Ratchadaphisek, Saint Louis, Navamin, Sukhumvit and Pattanakan areas late last night (July 20).

At the same time officials reported a power outage at a water-pumping station on Prachasuk Road in Din Daeng district. The incident delayed flood drainage in the area.

The Bangkok governor then visited a water-pumping station in Phra Khanong district. He expressed his concern about the levels of the Saen Saep Canal and the Chao Phraya River and said if their levels were lower, flood drainage could be accelerated.

This morning (July 21), Mr Chadchart inspected flooding on Sukhumvit Road and found deep flood levels in some sections of the road.
