RANONG, Thailand — A long-distance passenger bus ran a red light and violently crashed into a motorcycle at a busy intersection in Ranong, killing the rider instantly in a high-impact collision captured on nearby cameras.

Police from Muang Ranong Station reported that the accident occurred at around 8:25 p.m. on May 3 at the Ranong Garden intersection on Phetkasem Road. Emergency responders, highway police, tourist police, rescue teams, and forensic doctors rushed to the scene.

The victim, a 49-year-old man identified as Veerapong, was found dead in the middle of the road. His body was thrown several meters from the impact site, while his heavily damaged motorcycle was discovered trapped beneath the front of a VIP air-conditioned tour bus operating on the Bangkok–Phang Nga route.

Footage from a dashcam and nearby CCTV shows the bus accelerating toward the intersection and attempting to beat a yellow light before it turned red. At the same time, the motorcycle had just moved off from the front of the stop line as the light turned green, leading to the fatal collision.

The force of the impact reportedly threw the rider onto the bus windshield before he fell onto the road. The motorcycle was dragged approximately 50 meters under the vehicle.

The bus driver told police he attempted to clear the intersection before the light changed, claiming the large vehicle could not stop suddenly. However, investigators have charged him with reckless driving causing death while further checks, including alcohol and drug testing, have been requested by the victim’s family.

The bus, carrying passengers from Phang Nga to Bangkok’s Mo Chit terminal, had no additional injuries reported. Passengers were transferred to a replacement vehicle, delaying arrival by about three hours.

Authorities are continuing their investigation, while the victim’s body has been sent for full forensic examination to confirm the cause of death.
