Thailand and other APEC economies agreed to promote networking for inclusive female empowerment, affirming that a supportive and accommodating environment for women to thrive is important to ensuring equitable and sustainable economic growth in the region.

Thailand has announced its success in hosting the APEC Women and the Economy Forum (WEF) and has pledged to promote women’s empowerment and gender equality alongside other APEC member economies.

Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister and Acting Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri recently disclosed Thailand’s accomplishments in hosting APEC Women and the Economy Forum (WEF) on September 7, 2022, at the Icon Siam in Bangkok.

During the forum, Thailand and other APEC economies agreed to promote networking for inclusive female empowerment, affirming that a supportive and accommodating environment for women to thrive is important to ensuring equitable and sustainable economic growth in the region.

The meeting also stressed the need to prevent and eliminate all forms of gender-based violence and discrimination against women and girls, as well as empowering and advancing women and gender equality in the Asia Pacific region in order to achieve an open, dynamic, resilient and peaceful Asia-Pacific community by 2040 for the prosperity of all people and future generations.

The government spokesperson added that as host of APEC 2022, Thailand envisions a sustainable and resilient economy and society by adopting the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy model. This model integrates and synergizes three economic methods in which technology and innovation are used to produce value, minimize waste and promote sustainable businesses.

The Thai government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting female empowerment in all areas in order to achieve balanced and inclusive socioeconomic and environmental growth. (NNT)
