Bangkok – Deputy Prime Minister/Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has ordered all military units to closely monitor developments of the upcoming expected drought situation and watch out for related incidents such as forest fires.

Military units have been instructed to work closely with provincial disaster prevention and mitigation offices to evaluate water availability in risk areas, provide staff and equipment for mitigation operations, and help manage water distribution.

The military will also join hands with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to provide aircraft for 12 royal rainmaking units in five regions to mitigate drought effects and damage in the affected areas.
