CHIANG RAI, Thailand – Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Piyarat Tiyapairat visited Doi Hang Subdistrict in Chiang Rai Province to hear farmers’ concerns and speed up efforts to develop water sources and infrastructure to strengthen agricultural security. On June 14, 2026, the Minister and ministry executives inspected Doi Hang Subdistrict Municipality Hall in Mueang Chiang Rai District to follow up on the agricultural situation and hear local problems and needs. They were welcomed by Chiang Rai Deputy Governor Rujtisak Rungsee, Doi Hang Subdistrict Mayor Boonlert Numwong, local executives, municipal council members, administrative officials, and heads of relevant agencies.

Doi Hang Subdistrict Municipality identified key issues affecting residents and farmers. These included the need to secure reserve water sources from natural waterways for agriculture as an alternative to Kok River water, and assistance to farmers working on land near reserved forest areas without land title documents. Other challenges included dredging public water sources to increase storage capacity and address shallowness, flooding, and drought, and construction of a riverbank protection structure from Ban Pong Na Kham, Moo 4, to Ban Hong Or Bridge to prevent damage to farmland and riverside communities.

The visit demonstrated the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives’ commitment to engaging with local communities and collaborating with relevant agencies to address challenges in water management, infrastructure, and agricultural security. The Deputy Minister also distributed agricultural materials to local farmers, including vegetable seeds, giant tamarind seedlings, and bio-fermented liquid, to help reduce production costs, improve cultivation efficiency, and strengthen Doi Hang’s agricultural sector over the long term.
