BURIRAM, Thailand – A 7-year-old boy has died after a tragic choking incident involving a meatball while eating noodles at his home in Phutthaisong district, leaving his family and community in deep sorrow, April 29.
The incident occurred on April 24 when the boy, identified as “Yim,” a Grade 1 student, was eating a bowl of noodles prepared by his grandmother. According to the family, he had been eating normally when he suddenly showed signs of distress after swallowing the last meatball.
His grandmother immediately tried to assist him and called for help from neighbors. Initial attempts to dislodge the obstruction were unsuccessful, and he was rushed to hospital while still conscious and able to communicate.
He was transferred between two hospitals for emergency treatment and remained under medical care for three days. However, his condition gradually worsened, and doctors later informed the family that he had developed kidney failure. He was pronounced dead shortly after.
The grandmother said the incident happened in front of her and she did everything she could to help, describing the moment as deeply distressing. The case has left villagers shaken, as meatballs are a common food among children.
The boy’s body is currently being prepared for funeral rites at his home in Tambon Ban Chan, Phutthaisong district. (TNA)
