The Department of Medical Services (DMS) recently organized its 4th Thailand Elderly Health Service Forum, declaring 2023 as the year of seniors’ health, while also announcing its intent to make Thailand a “quality aged society”.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul presided over the 4th Thailand Elderly Health Service Forum and accompanying academic conferences on geriatric medicine as well as other geriatric disciplines. He said at the event that Thailand has become a fully aged society, with seniors accounting for 20% of the total population or about 13.5 million people.

Minister Anutin also said this presents challenges in areas such as the environment, social welfare, health, social service expenses, people’s rights and wellbeing, and efforts to ensure greater security for seniors. He called on all sectors to cooperate in addressing these issues.

The 4th Thailand Elderly Health Service Forum took place from August 7-9 at the Impact Forum building in Muang Thong Thani. Academic exhibits and health services for seniors, organized by hospitals under the DMS, were just some of the highlights of the event. The health services included – but were not limited to – screenings for dementia, eye health checks and eyelid spa treatments.

National-level discussions among geriatric experts also took place as part of the event. The talks involved elderly health, policies on seniors, local societies, the environment, law, finance and how seniors can live safely and happily. (NNT)
