Sunday, January 29, Green Valley – Stableford

A Flight

1st Yui Bietry (9) 42pts

2nd Ian Grout (9) 37pts

3rd Jan Erikssen (11) 36pts

B Flight

1st Jez Lees (17) 40pts

2nd Mark Bonner (16) 40pts

3rd Jerry McCarthy (15) 38pts

Near Pins: No 4 Pierre Bietry, No 9 Pat Regan, No 12 Ian Halfpenny, No 16 Yui Bietry

Yui Bietry lit up A Flight and the day with her superb 42 points and near pin on No. 16.  Yui’s score was 5 strokes clear of the ‘Shrewsbury Mauler’ Ian Grout who has just returned for a brief holiday.  Jan Erikssen and Vic the ‘inflictor’ Hester locked it up with a level to handicap 36 points apiece.  A count back put the remaining flight loot in Jan’s back pocket as Vic was left satang-less at sea level.

The trend of the higher handicappers having a better day on the Sunday shortened Pete Thompson design continued as Mark ‘Mussels’ Bonner posted a fine 40 point effort to better good pal Jez ‘the Principal’ Lees by one shot or so he thought all the way to the presentation.  Back at Lewiinski’s it was discovered that Jez had played off a wrong handicap i.e. 16 instead of 17 and the resulting count back gave Jez the top spot and Mussels the silver.  Mussels’ reply to this is unprintable.

The Irish were not to be left out as the inform Jerry McCarthy closed the flight.

There were seven ‘2’s recorded on the day.

Monday, January 16, Pattana – Stableford

A Flight

1st Colm Mullen (15) 39pts

2nd Tim Hickey (5) 36pts

3rd Morgan McEvoy (13) 34pts

4th Tore Eliassen (15) 34pts

B Flight

1st Ken Kelly (18) 37pts

2nd Shay Byrne (18) 33pts

3rd Tom Morrisroe (18) 33pts

4th Geoff Kubas (21) 32pts

Royal Lakeside’s superb condition and somewhat forgiving layout was expected to yield some good scores, but that was before some tightening up of the course and introduction of some carefully placed sand traps.  It is now a different kettle of fish altogether, not that Dublin’s Colm Mullen minded – Colm used every trick in his well worn bag to put together a splendid 39 points, for the man of the match and A Flight top spot.

Tim Hickey’s solid even par round was good for the silver while Morgan McEvoy and tore Eliassen faced off in a count back on 34 points that dictated that they finished in that order, as the size of the field required a fourth podium spot.

Ken Kelly attacked the layout with nearly the same fervor as the Senior Flight as his 37 points found him four clear of Shay Byrne and Tom Morrisroe, Shay getting the nod in the ensuing count back.  Geoff ‘Elvis’ Kubas took filled final slot on the podium.

Chris Martin and Gerry Roche split a very healthy 2’s pot.
