Monday, Feb. 24 Phoenix Gold Country Golf & Country Club Mountain & Lakes

Nine groups played Phoenix Gold Monday on the Mountain and Lakes loops in perfect conditions for golf. The course, as per usual, was in superb condition with fast greens that some of us had problems with. Three putts on some holes were the way it went putting the ball 6 feet past on the first putt then leaving the return putt short.

We said goodbye to our New Zealand friends as they are back home for a while. It was great to see you all again this year and I’m sure we will see you again next year. Safe traveling.

Now, as you can imagine, it was a bit hectic on the first tee with so many players but it all settled down and everyone got away in an orderly fashion. The scoring was good for some, not so good for others.

However; the others were in a count back for 4th and 5th. The New Zealand lads at least took a prize each back home with them as Jerry Grocott was beaten into 5th place by his good friend Bruce Harvey with both scoring 34 points.

It must be said they beat Julie in a tightly contested back nine. Not good for public relations beating the wife, Jerry.

Third place went to Sel Wegner with a handicap equaling 36 points.

Second went to Ivor Smith with 39 points, and first place was taken by Todd Givens with a great 40 points off his 6 handicap – a great game of golf mate.

There were three twos coming from Tim Knight, Gerard Lambert and Steve Dodd.
