Wednesday, July 8 Greenwood A+B Stableford

Now that he’s found it, he won’t let it go. Tip Briney has scored his third win in a row. After Soi Dao last week and then on Monday at Pleasant Valley, on Wednesday he romped in with a huge 43 points to easily win the Green Jacket.

This time around we kept him awake long enough to get an up to date photo of him in the Jacket.

The big win by Tip left a gap to the next places and here we had a four-way tie on 35 points.

Multiple countbacks resulted in Tommy Marshall taking second spot with a better back nine than third placed Bill Copeland, who then had a better back nine to push Paul Durkan into fourth.

We only went to four placings, so Mike Jeffreys was the unlucky one to miss.

Not too unlucky though as he won ‘best front nine’ with 21 points. Pity his scoring fell off on the second nine.

We arrived at Greenwood fairly early and by the time we got to the mustering area, Tommy Marshall had asked for and got us a two-tee start. The starter then told us to go when ready, so the first groups teed off about 25 minutes earlier than scheduled.

As expected, the fairways were damp and had little run, so lift, clean and place was the order. Fairways, otherwise, are in good condition and the greens also, as usual here, although perhaps a tad slower than we normally expect.

Near Pins: Tom Herrington, Paul Durkan, Lawrie McBride (the fourth pin not claimed).

We came to Greenwood where 15 of our 23 players had rain checks from two weeks before.

Today, the dark clouds and ominous forecast had some in the bus wondering if we could get a rain check on a rain check? Happily, we didn’t need to ask that question, although a similar dark cloud that washed us out last time hung overhead most of the round.

All finished in good time and got back to Links Bar for Joy’s meal of the day, Spaghetti Carbonara.
