PSC golf from The Golf Club

Monday, Dec. 2, Green Valley (white tees) – Monthly Medal

1st Scott Taylor (28) 35pts

T2nd Martin Zimmerman (15) 34pts

T2nd John Emmerson (12) 34pts

T2nd Robbie Taylor (12) 34pts

Today was one of the windiest days we have seen in quite some time at Green Valley and was a great test of golf on a course we are all very familiar with.  My, how things change once the wind picks up.  Some people, like Darren Clarke, play in these conditions all the time and are masters at rough weather.  We had no choice in the matter, so off we went to our only regular venue.

It’s great to see someone win after pluggin’ away at it for ages, and today was to be the day for Scott Taylor.  Our Aussie buddy finally got it all together for a great round of golf under very difficult conditions.

Canadian transplant Martin was in a pack of three to round out the leaderboard for today’s outing.  Thanks for joining us guys!

Wednesday, Dec. 4, Silky Oaks (white tees) – Stableford

It was good to get back to Silky Oaks once again, and we found the course in very good condition as usual.  We were happy to see the course open after a 4 month closure and blessed by great weather the game was afoot!

Kenny Aihara shot one of his best rounds in some time and his 41 points blew away the field by 6 points!  Great job Ken, good to see you back on track.

Bob Mulholland and the Montauk Mauler Mike Newbert had a tie on 35 to share 2nd place on the podium.

Thursday, Dec. 5, Kabinburi (white tees) – Stableford

T1st Mark Wood (10) 40pts

T1st Barry Wellinis (6) 40pts

2nd Ken Aihara (5) 37pts

Friday, Dec. 6, Kabinburi (white tees) – Stableford

1st Ken Aihara (5) 40pts

2nd Phil Smedley (10) 36pts

3rd Mark Wood (10) 35pts

We tried to visit Kabinburi in October, but had to cancel due to heavy flooding.  There are no problems with this course at all now; in fact we found it to be in great shape!  The fairways here are as lush as Siam Old and the teething problems with the sand get better every trip.

One thing we did notice was the road condition of the 304 had gotten worse and there are stretches where going 50km was difficult as the potholes from the floods were quite evident.  Add another 10 minutes to your trip for the comfort of your passengers, and thanks to Phil for providing the guests with as smooth a ride as possible.

We had a few newbies on this trip and I love to get the reaction of those playing a course for the first time.  Kabinburi was well received and we had some great scores to go along with the good times.  It was a 2-day individual Stableford format, and the first day went to Mark Wood and Barry Wellinis who both shot 40’s.  More importantly, we all had a great wine and cheese party at the poolside with only Ken and little Ally brave enough to get wet!

The next day it was all Ken Aihara as the previous night’s swim and sauna regimen proved to be the key and his healthy choice set him up for a 40 point round and the winner of the match with a 2-day total of 77.

Thanks to all who joined us for another great week of golf in paradise.
