On a fine and windy Tuesday morning, nine Links golfers arrived at Khao Kheow to tackle the C and A combination.

As the course has dried out, there was no question of carts on fairways and, at the great price of 1250 baht all-in, the choice was easy.

With good run on the well-cut fairways, and the greens, although still not looking pretty, ran truly and at deceiving pace, as a missed downhill putt proved on occasion. They are getting plenty of attention from the ground staff as they were busy sanding and tidying as we played.

The rough is a popular topic around our golfing area right now with many courses having not yet cut it back. We had some hard to find and even disappearing balls here today.

In hindsight, and not being able to predict the weather, we could have chosen to play the shorter white tees as the strong and, at times gusty wind, never eased up during the round. Many a flying hat was seen around the course.

Playing from the yellows kept scores well down from what might have been on a less windy day.

Nevertheless, George Mueller, being an experienced yachtie and knowing all about how winds work, played a smart enough game to be the only player to make it to 30 points, 32 points, in fact, for a good win.

Tom Herrington and Peter Lacey were surprised to be called in the placings, both with just 29 points. Tom won out on countback for second spot.

Winners at Khao Kheow

1st Place – George Mueller (15) – 32 pts

2nd Place – Tom Herrington (18) – 29 pts c/back

3rd Place – Peter Lacey (10) – 29 pts

The players didn’t seem to spend a lot of time wondering why they were playing golf on a Tuesday and enjoyed a windy, but pleasant day out at beautiful Khao Kheow Country Club.
