U-Tapao International Airport’s second runway in Rayong has passed 30% completion, with the 3,505-metre facility scheduled to be finished in late 2028 as part of the EEC Aviation City development.

RAYONG, Thailand – Construction of the second runway at U-Tapao International Airport in Rayong has progressed beyond 30%, marking a milestone in the development of the Eastern Economic Corridor’s (EEC) aviation infrastructure. The new runway will measure 3,505 metres long and 60 metres wide, including taxiways and associated facilities. Completion is scheduled for late 2028.

The project forms part of the wider EEC Aviation City development, which aims to expand the region’s aviation capabilities and support future demand for air travel and related industries.

Other key components are also advancing. The contract for the U-Tapao aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) centre was signed in early October 2026, while bidding for a new air traffic control tower is scheduled to take place this year.

Together, the runway, MRO centre and air traffic control tower are intended to support the airport’s long-term development as part of the Eastern Economic Corridor, which covers key areas of Thailand’s eastern seaboard, including Rayong, Chonburi and Chachoengsao.

The second runway is expected to play an important role in increasing the airport’s operational capacity, while the associated aviation facilities are designed to support aircraft maintenance and air traffic management as the wider project progresses.
