PATTAYA, Thailand – A 22-year-old Russian interpreter has earned widespread praise after volunteering her services during the investigation into the high-profile murders of two Russian siblings near Pattaya, saying she feels “100% Thai at heart – only the Thai ID card is missing.” Varvara Davydova, who has lived in Thailand since the age of eight, served as a Thai-Russian interpreter during the investigation, helping police communicate with the victims’ family and officials throughout the case.
A graduate of the Faculty of Law at Sripatum University with first-class honors, Varvara now works as a professional interpreter while also volunteering in criminal investigations, particularly with Chonburi Immigration Police in Pattaya. She first worked as an interpreter at the age of 15 and said many of her assignments have been voluntary because she understands that authorities often have limited budgets.
“Many times I volunteer because I know they don’t have funding, and I understand the difficulties they face. If they can pay me, that’s fine. If they can’t, that’s also fine. The experience I gain from seeing the law applied in real cases is incredibly valuable,” she said. Varvara described assisting in the recent murder investigation alongside Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kitrat Phanphet and senior police officers as one of the greatest honors of her life.
She also expressed her deepest condolences to the victims’ family and thanked police commanders for their trust, as well as members of the media for their cooperation during the investigation. Her dedication attracted widespread admiration on Thai social media after a popular Facebook page highlighted her role in the case. Sharing the post on her own account, Varvara wrote:
“My heart is 100% Thai. The only thing I’m missing is a Thai ID card.”
The heartfelt remark quickly resonated with many Thais, who thanked her for volunteering her time and skills to assist authorities during one of the country’s most closely followed criminal investigations.
