BANGKOK, Thailand – The Marine Department has announced temporary navigation restrictions on sections of the Chao Phraya River and Bangkok Noi Canal for rehearsals of the Royal Barge Procession this month. The closures will take effect on August 17, 20, and 27. On the Chao Phraya River, the controlled area runs from Krung Thon Bridge to Phra Pok Klao Bridge. Seagoing vessels, cargo vessels, and boats carrying hazardous goods must avoid this section from 9:00 a.m. onward. All other vessels are barred from the area from 12:30 p.m. until the rehearsal ends. On the Bangkok Noi Canal, all vessels are prohibited from passing between the canal mouth and Wat Suwannaram Ratchaworawihan from 12:30 p.m. onward.
Passenger boat services will be adjusted during the restrictions. Chao Phraya Express Boat services will run only between Payap Pier and Ratchawong Pier. Electric boat and ferry services at certain piers will continue until 12:30 p.m., while the Tha Tien ferry will operate until 3:00 p.m. Boat operators, vessel owners, and boat masters who violate the restrictions could face fines of 500 to 5,000 baht and possible suspension or seizure of their certificates for up to six months.
