PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya authorities have launched a coordinated operation to address concerns over homeless people, street activity and child flower sellers in major tourist areas, aiming to improve public order, safety and the city’s image. On August 4, Deputy Pattaya Mayor Damrongkiat Pinitkan led a joint operation with officials from the Chonburi Provincial Protection and Quality of Life Center to inspect areas including Pattaya Beach Road, Second Road and nearby locations.
The operation involved Pattaya City officials from social welfare, public order and environmental departments, along with local representatives, as authorities focused on assisting vulnerable people while maintaining order in busy tourism zones.
A total of 13 homeless individuals were found during the operation, including six men and seven women. Authorities provided assistance based on individual circumstances. Five people were advised to leave restricted areas, five were transferred to the Chonburi Provincial Protection and Quality of Life Center for support, while three people showing signs of mental health issues were taken to Pattaya Bhattamakun Hospital for treatment. Following the operation, Pattaya officials also inspected Walking Street after reports circulated on social media regarding groups of Cambodian children allegedly approaching tourists, selling flowers and being involved in suspected theft-related incidents.
Local business operators told officials that the groups included both adults and children who often approached visitors during the evening, selling flowers and repeatedly asking for money. Some incidents involving alleged opportunistic theft had also been reported. Pattaya officials have instructed relevant agencies to take action according to legal procedures and continue monitoring the situation to ensure tourist areas remain safe and orderly. The city said the measures are part of ongoing efforts to balance tourism development with social support, while protecting visitors, residents and the reputation of Pattaya as an international destination.
