PATTAYA, Thailand – The Ministry of Transport is rolling out nationwide measures to support travel during the Songkran holiday, offering free expressway and motorway access, public services, and safety measures as part of a campaign to improve road safety and reduce accidents.

Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has instructed all agencies to coordinate efforts from April 10 to 19, covering a 10-day travel period. Authorities have set a target to reduce accidents, injuries, and fatalities on major routes by at least 5 percent.

Free toll access will be provided on several expressways and motorways for up to seven days, while additional routes will be temporarily opened to ease congestion. Free vehicle inspections will be available at multiple locations nationwide, along with service centers, roadside assistance units, and rest areas to support travelers.

Authorities will also implement traffic management measures, including suspending construction, improving road lighting, monitoring high-risk areas, and restricting truck movement during peak periods. Public transport services will maintain existing fares during the holiday, while additional measures are in place to ensure sufficient capacity and prevent overcharging.

Additional services include free parking at Suvarnabhumi Airport, free shuttle buses, and free public transport for elderly passengers on selected systems, ensuring safe travel while maintaining adequate fuel supplies and supporting public services throughout the holiday period. (NNT)
