PATTAYA, Thailand – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) marked the press launch of SCAT Airlines’ new Shymkent–Bangkok service, reinforcing direct air connectivity between Thailand and Kazakhstan and supporting continued growth from the Central Asia market.
The press launch was attended by H.E. Mr. Margulan Baimuhan, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Thailand; Ms. Chiravadee Khunsub, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Europe, America, Middle East, and Africa; and Mr. Nikolay Buryakov, Commercial Director of SCAT Airlines, reflecting the role of public–private cooperation in expanding international air services.
Ms. Chiravadee said, “The launch of SCAT Airlines’ new Shymkent–Bangkok service marks the beginning of a new chapter, not only for our airline partners but also for travellers and businesses who will benefit from this connection between two extraordinary cities.” She added that Central Asia is recognised as a high-potential market for Thailand, supported by favourable travel conditions including Thailand’s tourist visa exemption, which allows stays of up to 30 days with the option to extend to 60 days.
Highlighting Thailand’s broad appeal, Ms. Chiravadee noted that destinations rich in history, culture and natural beauty continue to resonate strongly with Kazakhstani travellers. “Whether visitors are drawn to sacred temples, world-famous cuisine or our diverse coastal landscapes, Thailand delivers memorable experiences throughout the day and night.” She also expressed appreciation to SCAT Airlines for its close cooperation with the TAT Moscow Office in facilitating the launch of the new Shymkent–Bangkok service.

SCAT Airlines operates the Shymkent–Bangkok service twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays using Boeing 737-800 aircraft with a capacity of 180 seats in an all-economy configuration. Flight DV469 arrives in Bangkok at 04.30 Hrs., with the return service DV470 departing Bangkok at 05.40 Hrs. The first arrival on 16 December 2025 brought 140 passengers to the Thai capital, indicating early demand for direct travel between the two destinations.
The new Shymkent–Bangkok route complements existing Thailand–Kazakhstan air links, including scheduled services by Air Astana and SCAT Airlines from Almaty and Astana to Bangkok and Phuket, as well as AirAsia services from Almaty to Bangkok. This expanded network enhances travel choice while supporting access to Thailand’s key gateways.

Kazakhstan remains a strategically important source market for Thailand. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Thailand welcomed approximately 50,000–60,000 Kazakh tourists annually. The market rebounded strongly after the pandemic, with 172,489 visitors in 2023, an increase of 189% year-on-year, and 195,089 visitors in 2024, representing growth of 13.10%.
From 1 January to 14 December 2025, Thailand recorded 152,783 visitors from Kazakhstan. Growth has been supported by expanded scheduled and charter flights, eased visa access, sustained market development efforts and continued interest in Thailand as a long-haul leisure destination.

SCAT Airlines has continued to expand its international network in recent years, adding more than ten destinations across Asia and Europe in 2025. Operating from its hub at Shymkent International Airport, the airline’s fleet growth and ongoing cooperation with Boeing support its focus on safety, comfort and reliable connectivity between Central Asia and global destinations. The launch of the Shymkent–Bangkok service is expected to further strengthen travel flows, cultural exchange and economic ties between Thailand and Kazakhstan, reinforcing Thailand’s position as a preferred destination for Central Asian travellers.
