PATTAYA, Thailand – Thailand’s Meteorological Department has warned of summer storms across much of the country, with eastern areas including Pattaya facing risks of thunderstorms, strong winds, and possible hail between April 24–25.
According to the Thai Meteorological Department, the unstable weather is being driven by a high-pressure system from China pushing cooler air over the northeast and the South China Sea, clashing with intense heat across upper Thailand.
For eastern provinces—including Chonburi, where Pattaya is located—there is a 20% chance of thunderstorms, with isolated gusty winds and hail expected in some areas such as nearby Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat.
While Pattaya itself is not forecast to face widespread storms, sudden weather changes remain possible, especially during the late afternoon and evening when heat buildup peaks. Residents and tourists are advised to stay alert for fast-moving storm cells, which can bring brief but intense rainfall, strong winds, and lightning.
Across the country, 48 provinces are under alert, particularly in the north and northeast where storm activity is expected to be more widespread and severe, including heavy rain and hail in some locations.
Authorities warn that the combination of extreme daytime heat followed by sudden storms could pose risks, including falling branches, reduced visibility, and localized disruptions.
