PATTAYA, Thailand – Thailand’s meteorological authorities have warned that summer storms are developing across many parts of the country, bringing the possibility of thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning in several regions, including the eastern seaboard where Pattaya is located.

According to the Thai Meteorological Department, the unstable weather conditions are expected over the next 24 hours as a high-pressure system from China pushes cooler air into the region while warm air and moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand move across the country.

The combination of hot daytime temperatures and incoming moisture is creating conditions favorable for summer thunderstorms, strong winds, and isolated lightning.

For eastern provinces including Chonburi and Rayong, which cover the Pattaya region, forecasters say around 20 percent of the area could experience thunderstorms, accompanied by occasional gusty winds.

Temperatures in the eastern region are expected to range between 23–26°C at night and 32–36°C during the day, with southeasterly winds blowing at 10–30 km/h. Sea conditions in the Gulf are generally calm, with wave heights below one meter, although waves could exceed one meter in areas experiencing thunderstorms.

Authorities are advising residents and visitors to exercise caution during sudden storms, particularly by avoiding open areas, large trees, unstable structures, and roadside billboards that could be vulnerable to strong winds.

The warning also comes as parts of Thailand continue to experience moderate to relatively high levels of haze and dust, including central regions and Bangkok, due to limited air circulation.

Despite the unsettled weather outlook, tourism activities in Pattaya are expected to continue as usual, with storms likely to be brief and scattered rather than widespread. Visitors are simply advised to monitor local forecasts and be prepared for occasional rain showers or sudden gusty winds, particularly in the late afternoon or evening.
