PATTAYA, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department has issued its fourth warning as summer storms are forecast to affect upper Thailand between April 29 and May 1, bringing thunderstorms, strong winds, hail in some areas, and isolated heavy rain.

According to the department, the storms will first impact the northern, northeastern, and eastern regions before extending to central Thailand, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces. The weather pattern is driven by a strengthening high-pressure system from China, which is pushing a mass of cool air over Laos, northern Vietnam, and into northeastern Thailand and the South China Sea.

At the same time, most of Thailand continues to experience hot to very hot conditions. Northern provinces are expected to see peak temperatures of up to 40°C, while northeastern areas will experience thunderstorms over 60% of the region, with some locations facing heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

Central Thailand, including Bangkok, is forecast to remain hot during the day with scattered thunderstorms covering around 20% of the area, along with possible strong wind gusts. The southern region will also see isolated thunderstorms due to prevailing monsoon winds.

The department also noted that dust and haze levels across the northern, northeastern, and upper central regions have improved slightly due to increased rainfall but remain at moderate levels.

Residents in affected areas are advised to remain cautious of sudden weather changes, including strong winds, lightning, and potential hailstorms. (TNA)
