PATTAYA, Thailand A confrontation between a ride-hailing driver and a baht bus operator on Soi Buakhao has reignited complaints about traffic congestion and road discipline in one of Pattaya’s busiest areas. The incident occurred when a baht bus reportedly stopped in the middle of the road to speak with potential passengers, forcing vehicles behind it to wait for nearly two minutes. A ride-hailing driver, frustrated by the delay and the growing traffic queue, confronted the driver, leading to a heated exchange that nearly escalated into a physical altercation.

Witnesses said the stoppage caused traffic to back up along the narrow roadway, with motorists unable to pass due to parked vehicles and limited space. Video and photos of the incident circulated online, prompting fresh debate about long-standing traffic issues on Soi Buakhao. Many residents, tourists, and regular road users argue that baht buses frequently stop abruptly to pick up or drop off passengers, sometimes blocking traffic lanes and creating bottlenecks. While the vehicles remain a key part of Pattaya’s public transport system, critics say inconsistent enforcement of traffic regulations contributes to congestion and safety concerns.

Ride-hailing drivers and delivery riders, who spend much of the day navigating Pattaya’s busy streets, have often voiced frustration over vehicles stopping in active traffic lanes, particularly in high-density areas such as Soi Buakhao, Pattaya Beach Road, and Second Road. Traffic experts note that even short stops can create significant delays on narrow roads already struggling with heavy traffic volumes, especially during peak hours and tourist seasons. The incident has renewed calls for stricter enforcement against illegal stopping and parking, clearer designated pick-up points for public transport vehicles, and better traffic management to reduce congestion in Pattaya’s busiest districts.
