PATTAYA, Thailand — Two cars were badly damaged after a heavy collision at the Thepprasit Road intersection early Monday morning, Sept. 15, with police investigating suspected drunk driving. The accident was reported at about 6 a.m. at the traffic lights on Sukhumvit Road in South Pattaya. Rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon and police rushed to the scene.
In the middle of the intersection, officers found a black Mitsubishi Attrage, driven by Suwinai Saisut, 33, and a red Mitsubishi Mirage, driven by Chayanan Nilsingkorn, 44. The two cars had collided with considerable force, leaving both vehicles with severe front-end damage. Suwinai told officers that he had been driving from South Pattaya towards the Thepprasit Road intersection. He said he signaled to turn right and entered the intersection when his traffic light was green.
He said the red sedan suddenly came through the intersection and struck his car with considerable force. A dashboard camera in his vehicle reportedly captured the collision. Police photographed the scene and documented the positions and damage to both vehicles before having the cars taken to Pattaya City Police Station for further examination.
Officers said the driver of the red sedan appeared to be heavily intoxicated following the crash. She was taken to Bhatthamakun Hospital for medical attention before undergoing alcohol testing.
Police are collecting the test results, CCTV or dashcam evidence and other information to establish the cause of the collision and determine whether charges should be filed under Thailand’s drunk-driving laws.
