A teenager narrowly escaped death by climbing off the balcony when a fire broke out sending flames and clouds of toxic smoke through his home.

16-year-old Poramet Soratavorn said that he was on the second floor of his home in Royal Park Village on Thepprasit Road, when he smelled smoke which was spreading upwards. He ran downstairs to see to his horror that the living room sofa was in flames filling the house with toxic smoke.

The teenager ran back upstairs and opened all the windows, went out to the balcony and climbed down to the ground calling for help.
Firefighters didn’t take very long to put out the fire and clear the house of smoke.

On investigation, they assumed that the boy’s father had been charging some electronic devices and left them on the sofa. The heat emanating while charging or an electricity leakage may have caused the equipment to ignite causing the combustible sofa to catch fire.
