A woman’s social media post sparks debate after she claims motorcycle taxi drivers opened her ride-hailing car doors and confronted her in North Pattaya.

PATTAYA, Thailand – A social media post has sparked debate over passenger safety and transport conflicts in Pattaya after a woman claimed two motorcycle taxi drivers confronted her while she was using a ride-hailing service in North Pattaya, July 9. The woman said she had booked a car through a mobile application for a trip from North Pattaya to Bangkok. After getting into the vehicle, she claimed two local motorcycle taxi drivers approached the car and opened the front and rear doors without permission. According to her account, one driver opened the front passenger door, leaned into the vehicle, and allegedly attempted to reach toward the ignition to switch off the engine. Another driver reportedly opened the rear door where she was sitting and began questioning her.

The incident left her shocked and uncomfortable, saying the behavior appeared like an official inspection at first because of the way the men entered the vehicle, before realizing they were motorcycle taxi operators. The post quickly spread online, with many commenters questioning whether such actions crossed the line and raised concerns about passenger privacy and safety. Ride-hailing services have grown increasingly popular among residents and visitors in Pattaya, while disputes between app-based transport operators and traditional motorcycle taxi groups have periodically drawn public attention. Authorities have yet to comment on the incident or confirm whether any complaint has been filed.
