PATTAYA, Thailand – Officials in Pattaya have cleared homeless individuals from the lifeguard tent area along Pattaya Beach after complaints that the space was being used for sleeping and storing personal belongings.
Municipal enforcement officers and special operations staff inspected the beach area after reports that homeless people had piled up belongings around the lifeguard station and were resting inside the tent used by beach safety personnel.
Authorities ordered those involved to remove their belongings and leave the area, while also warning them not to repeat the behavior.
City officials said the action was necessary to maintain cleanliness, public order and the image of Pattaya as a tourist destination.
The issue has sparked strong reactions from local residents, some of whom say the number of people sleeping along Pattaya Beach has increased in recent months.
Residents complained about piles of bags, food waste and personal items being left along the beachfront, with some saying the situation makes the area feel less safe for both tourists and locals.
Others questioned whether there should be designated areas for overnight stays or temporary shelter, while some called for stronger long-term action to prevent the problem from returning.
