Pattaya faces potential storms and strong winds as heavy monsoon rains continue, with authorities urging residents, tourists, and fishermen to stay alert and follow safety updates.

PATTAYA, Thailand – The Meteorological Department of Thailand has warned that Pattaya and surrounding areas could experience strong winds and localized storms as heavy monsoon rains continue to sweep across the country.

The ongoing rainfall is caused by a monsoon trough stretching across central Thailand, combined with intermittent low-pressure systems and moderate southwest monsoon winds. From 5–7 September, heavy rain is expected in several regions, including the lower northern provinces, northeastern and central areas, the eastern seaboard, and Bangkok with its surrounding metropolitan areas.

Lower Northern provinces such as Phichit, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun have recorded particularly high rainfall accumulation, increasing the risk of flash floods and mountain runoff. Meteorologists warn that Pattaya could also see gusty winds, thunderstorms, and heavy showers, particularly during short but intense downpours.

Somkuan Tonjan, Director of the Weather Forecasting Division, advised that residents, tourists, and fishermen exercise extra caution. “Boaters and fishermen should navigate carefully, especially in areas with thunderstorms, as winds and waves may intensify due to the continuing southwest monsoon,” he said.

From 8–13 September, rainfall is expected to remain widespread, with alternating periods of heavy and light rain across many provinces. The influences of the monsoon trough and southwest monsoon persist, while low-pressure areas occasionally affect central regions. Authorities stress that residents must remain vigilant, although no tropical storms are currently forming near Thailand.
