PATTAYA, Thailand – Elections in both Pattaya and Bangkok passed without major weather-related disruptions despite forecasts warning of afternoon thunderstorms and heavy rain across parts of the country on Sunday. The Thai Meteorological Department had cautioned that storm activity could increase during the afternoon and evening, with Bangkok facing the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall during voting hours for the Bangkok governor and Bangkok Metropolitan Council elections. Pattaya and other areas along Thailand’s eastern seaboard were also placed under watch for thunderstorms, gusty winds, and localized flooding.
While cloud cover increased throughout the day in some areas, voting and election-related activities proceeded smoothly, allowing residents in both cities to cast their ballots without significant interruption from the weather. However, meteorologists continue to warn that unsettled conditions are expected to persist into the coming week as monsoon moisture remains active across much of Thailand. Pattaya, Chonburi, and surrounding eastern provinces may continue to experience periods of thunderstorms, heavy downpours, and strong winds, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
Authorities are advising motorists to exercise caution on wet roads and residents in low-lying areas to remain alert for localized flooding during periods of intense rainfall. Beachgoers and operators of small boats are also encouraged to monitor weather conditions closely. Pattaya City officials said they will continue monitoring drainage systems and weather developments as part of ongoing rainy season preparedness measures. Residents and visitors are urged to follow official forecasts, radar updates, and weather advisories as conditions may change rapidly throughout the week.
