Abbot Thawatchai Techtaro of Yang Yai Temple filed a complaint with local police against an unidentified contractor who absconded with the temple’s 200,000 baht deposit.

A Huay Yai Buddhist temple has pressed fraud charges against a construction contractor who allegedly absconded with a 200,000 baht deposit to build new monk dormitories.

Abbot Thawatchai Techtaro of Yang Yai Temple said April 25 that he filed a complaint with local police against the unidentified contractor who, in January, offered to lead a job to build new dorms for a total price of 492,000 baht.

Thawatchai paid a 200,000 baht deposit on January 29, but the man only returned with painters and never did any more work. The abbot had tried repeatedly to contact the suspect to no avail.

The temple has since contracted with a more reputable company to build the dorms and Thawatchai is now demanding the first contractor return the deposit.

Since then, the temple has contracted with a more reputable company to build the dorms. Thawatchai is now demanding the first contractor return the deposit, money for which came from donations by temple members.

It’s not the first time the unnamed contractor has ended up in the headlines. Earlier he was caught on video arguing with his girlfriend on Thepprasit Road in Pattaya who then was struck by a truck. The contractor then abused the truck driver.
