An Omani man allegedly too drunk to climb the stairs to his South Pattaya hotel room died as he slept in a lobby armchair.

The man was pronounced dead around 9 a.m. Oct. 9 in that South Pattaya hotel.

Hotel staffers reported the 36 year old Omani national had returned to the hotel around 1 a.m. heavily intoxicated. Unable to go to his second-floor room, he crashed in the lobby where an unknown Thai woman placed a cool towel on his forehead and left him to sleep.

Hotel maid Amnart Panchana, 45, said she checked on the Omani around 8 a.m. and discovered he wasn’t breathing.

Police suspect the man either died of alcohol poisoning or a heart attack, although his body was sent to the Forensics Institute for a scientific determination.
