Under the city’s “You Block It, We Remove It” campaign, officials are continuing inspections and removing obstacles or items placed in public areas without permission.
City officials stressed that sidewalks, roadsides and other public spaces must remain accessible for pedestrians, residents and visitors. Illegal occupation of public areas can create inconvenience, safety risks and damage the image of Pattaya as a world-class tourist destination. However, some residents and visitors say stronger action is needed, with many calling for fines and stricter enforcement rather than repeated warnings. They argue that the city’s parking problems have become increasingly difficult, with motorists often finding it hard to locate legal parking spaces even on ordinary days when no major events are taking place.
Some drivers say the lack of available parking has sometimes left them with no choice but to temporarily park in double rows, not intentionally ignoring the rules but because of limited options in crowded areas. Public frustration has also grown over some businesses continuing to place chairs, tables and other items on public areas, with critics saying certain operators appear to ignore regulations because they do not fear serious consequences.
Residents say reclaiming public spaces must include meaningful enforcement to ensure everyone follows the same rules, rather than allowing some businesses or individuals to benefit from areas meant for public use. Authorities acknowledged that restoring order across the city cannot happen overnight, but said every inspection and enforcement action is aimed at creating a cleaner, safer and more organised Pattaya.
