PATTAYA, Thailand – Public parking spaces along Pattaya Beach are for everyone, not private stockpiles for motorcycle rental businesses. Pattaya City is stepping up inspections to stop operators from reserving public spaces, blocking footpaths and occupying areas intended for shared public use.
Municipal enforcement officers are working with police and relevant agencies to check beachfront areas and enforce regulations. Authorities say businesses cannot claim public parking spaces for their own commercial use, set aside spaces for rental motorcycles or occupy public land for private benefit without permission.
Motorists are also reminded that parking is prohibited along red-and-white kerbs. Parking or riding motorcycles on footpaths, particularly when it obstructs pedestrians, is also forbidden.
The issue affects more than parking. When rental motorcycles take over roadside spaces or spill onto footpaths, residents and visitors can lose access to public areas, while pedestrians may be forced into busy traffic. Keeping these spaces available for general use is part of maintaining a safer and more orderly beachfront.
Authorities warn that violations can lead to legal action, including cases involving prohibited parking, riding or parking on footpaths, and unauthorized commercial use of public space. Residents and tourists who encounter obstructed footpaths, illegally reserved parking spaces or other public-order problems can contact Pattaya City Contact Centre on 1337 to report the location and details. Pattaya’s beachfront belongs to the public. Enforcement will matter most if the rules are applied consistently, allowing visitors, residents and legitimate businesses to share the area fairly.
